Beginning in 1964, under the direction of Stan Lee, Marvel Comics began offering the much-coveted No-Prize to its many readers.
Literally “No Prize” — or, in later years, not much of a prize — there were nonetheless several ways for an eagle-eyed reader to win themselves a No-Prize. Probably the most competitive tactic was that of Marvel’s massive audience of amateur continuity editors. These readers had not only detected mistakes within the pages of their favorite Marvel mag — they’d also contrive a satisfactory explanation. These few and fact-oriented readers were even given an important rank within the Merry Marvel Marching Society roster of acronyms — Titanic True Believer!
